Shakopee Area Catholic School is committed to teaching our students the importance of service to others. Service projects are woven into learning even in our youngest grades. Our middle school students lead school-wide service projects that positively impact our community. Some of our favorites are:
Sock Collection for Caring and Sharing Hands
Last year, our students brought in 3,242 pairs of socks! The Student Council members delivered them to Caring and Sharing Hands in Minneapolis and spent the day learning from Mary Jo Copeland about her ministry.
Partnership with All Saints Senior Living
Our students have the opportunity to volunteer at neighboring All Saints Senior Living Complex. Students play bingo, read, paint fingernails and visit with residents.
5th Grade Entrepreneur Unit
Our fifth graders work as teams to design, market, produce and sell various products at a spring sale. All proceeds from the project are donated to a charity the fifth graders have chosen.
Advent Toy Collection
Each Advent, our students collect toys for families in need, consistently collecting over 300 gifts and monetary donations.
Feed My Starving Children
Our school community regularly volunteers at Feed My Starving Children where students and families pack meals for needy families around the world.
Annual Food Drive
Our school community generously donates nearly 5,000 items to the local food shelf in the Student Council sponsored food drive.
Campus Clean Up
Our students practice environmental conservation by cleaning up our school grounds on Earth Day and throughout the year.
Adopt-A-Park Sponsorship
Our fifth graders adopt a park in our community and clean it up three times per year.
Saints Joachim & Anne Parish
Our students can volunteer to be an altar server at weekend and Holy Day of Obligation Masses. They can also earn service hours by working on various projects, including facility clean-up, mowing lawns, stuffing bulletins, or at events like the JACS JAM parish festival.
